How to pass the PPL theory exam — a 6-week study plan

July 14, 2026

Six weeks is enough time to cover all nine PPL(A) subjects if you study consistently. This plan balances breadth and depth so you arrive at the exam with no weak subjects.

Weeks 1–2: Foundation

Start with Air Law and Operational Procedures — they are rule-heavy and reward early repetition. Run 20–30 minutes of quiz drills daily and review flashcards the same evening.

Weeks 3–4: Core subjects

Rotate through Meteorology, Navigation, Principles of Flight, and Human Performance. Aim for 80% accuracy in drills before moving to the next subject.

Week 5: Technical depth

Focus on Flight Performance and Planning, Aircraft General Knowledge, and Communications. These subjects often carry calculation and systems questions that need extra practice.

Week 6: Exam simulation

  • Run two full timed simulations early in the week.
  • Review every missed question with explanations.
  • Do a light revision pass on your weakest subject the day before the exam.

Daily habit

Consistency beats cramming. Even 20 minutes a day on your phone keeps momentum and builds the streak that carries you through the final week.
